De-Matting Policy
At Cozy Cabin Dog Grooming, I prioritize the welfare of the dogs in my care.
De Matting Policy Under the Animal Welfare Act 2006, it is an offence to cause unnecessary suffering to an animal. This includes prolonged ‘de-matting’ which is painful and detrimental to the welfare of the dog. When I have assessed your dog’s coat and if found to be matted, I may have to make the decision for it to be clipped short or shaved off. I will contact you to discuss and advise you in this situation. When a dog’s coat becomes matted, it causes discomfort as the matts pull tightly on the skin and underlying health conditions may not be visible. When a matted coat is clipped short, it may reveal sore, reddened, and irritated skin, this is due to the skin not being able to breathe, lack of air circulation and dirt that has accumulated underneath. Clipping a matted coat can take longer and cause additional wear and tear on my equipment so a further fee will be chargeable in addition to the normal groom price. In clipping short, you acknowledge that any irritation to your dogs’ skin is due to the removal of a matted coat and is not the responsibility of Cozy Cabin Dog Grooming. When clipping a severely matted dog the chances of the dogs’ skin being cut increases, but this is not due to negligence from the groomer. On a rare occasion that this occurs, you may need to seek veterinary advice following the groom and you will be liable for the full cost of any treatment. Dogs feel different after being fully clipped and it can take time for them to adjust to the way their skin now feels. However, please be assured your dog will be much happier without the matted coat.
Animal Welfare Act
Cozy Cabin dog grooming adheres to the Dog Welfare Act 2007 to ensure that all dogs in my care are treated with respect, kindness, and consideration for their well-being. Grooming sessions are designed to provide a safe and comfortable experience for your furry friend, with individual attention in my calm garden environment.
Dogs comfort & Wellbeing
Dogs comfort is priority! Please ensure that your dog has been given the opportunity to be relieved prior to the grooming session. This will ensure that they are not stressed or agitated and get the maximum enjoyment from their grooming experience. I will not carry out any grooming procedure that causes pain or a level of stress that I think is excessive. In some situations, this can include nail trimming. For some dogs and senior dogs, the grooming experience can be a stressful event for them. I always try and make the experience as comfortable and stress free as possible. Only grooming work that your dog will tolerate will be carried out and I will not groom any dog if it causes them any undue stress. All work you, as the owner have requested will be attempted, however if your dog does become unduly stressed, I will groom your dog to ensure cleanliness and comfort only.
Please advise me of any medical, physical, emotional issues, allergies, sensitivities, dog treat allergies, cologne spray allergies, pre-existing conditions and any treatment they are receiving prior to grooming taking place. Such conditions may include, but are not restricted to, prior surgeries, hip or joint issues, warts, moles, ear infections or skin problems. If I discover any health/skin problems, I will notify you as soon as possible or when you collect your dog, in the unlikely case of an accident a veterinary surgery may be required to be called by me for advice alternatively you will be asked to collect your dog.
Dog Behaviour
If your dog has behaviour problems, please let me know when the appointment is made giving full details, particularly if the dog has aggression/biting issues. If a dog exhibits aggression or bad behaviour during the a groom session that has not been pre advised, the session may have to cease.
Appointments
As a one-to-one groomer your dog’s grooming session is important to me, and late appointments can have an impact on me and other clients. Please bear in mind that you are kindly asked to drop off your dog at the appointment time and you will be contacted to collect your dog once the groom has been completed. Unfortunately, I am unable to allow owners to stay whilst your dog is being groomed due to limited space, health and safety and the likelihood your dog will not settle. Therefore, please arrive for the appointment and be ready to leave you dog in my safe hands, please be assured a discussion of your dog’s requirements will be held before you leave. Following the groom session due to space and insurance restrictions, I am unable to pet sit your dog for an unreasonable length of time, after 15 minutes charges will apply.
Cancellations
Any appointment not cancelled at least 48 hours prior will incur a fee of the full groom cost. 48 hours’ notice allows me enough time to re allocate you appointment to another customer.
Pricing
Prices provided to you prior to your appointment are a guide from price, this is based on the information you have provided at the time of booking. In addition to de matting fees being applicable as advised above, coat condition is considered also and the length of the coat to be groomed at the time of your appointment. Overgrown coats that require pre clipping or scissoring prior to bathing will incur an additional fee. This is due to additional wear on clipper blade/ scissors when cutting a dirty overgrown coat, additional products and the extra time needed to complete this preparation.
It is advisable to ensure that your dog is kept on a schedule where their groom sessions are regular as per their coat and style requirements to avoid such additional fees.
